What is a doula?

A doula is a trained professional who provides physical, emotional, and informational support to individuals or couples before, during, and after childbirth. Unlike midwives, doulas do not have medical training or deliver babies. Instead, they offer continuous support to the birthing person and their partner, if present, to ensure a more comfortable and positive birthing experience.

These findings are consistent across various studies and meta-analyses. The continuous support and care that doulas provide, both emotionally and physically, seem to play a key role in improving birth outcomes and the overall experience for the birthing person and their family.
